Point of sale for American fashion boutiques

From a SoHo storefront to a strip-mall boutique in Texas, US apparel shops juggle size runs, holiday return rushes and sales tax that changes by state and city. BoutiquePOS is built around those three problems.

Yes. BoutiquePOS runs in a browser at US boutiques and apparel shops, priced in US dollars with sales tax added at checkout. You set tax rates per location, track every size and color as its own SKU, print barcode labels, handle holiday returns and exchanges, and your catalog becomes an online store automatically.

Selling clothes in United States

How does BoutiquePOS handle US sales tax for clothing?

You set a tax rate (or a tax group that stacks state, county and city rates) on each location, and the till adds it at checkout the way American shoppers expect. A shop in one county and a second store across the line can each charge their own rate from the same catalog.

Clothing is treated differently from state to state. Some states exempt most apparel, New York exempts clothing under a per-item price threshold, and some states run back-to-school sales tax holidays. You can set a product or category to a different tax rate when your rules call for it, but the rates themselves are yours to confirm with your accountant or state revenue department; we don't file or certify anything.

Can it keep up with size runs and color stories?

Yes. Each style is one product with variations, for example XS to XL across three colors, and every variation keeps its own SKU, barcode, price, stock count and photo. When the medium in black sells out you see it at that variation, not buried in a style total.

Numeric sizing works the same way, so denim in 24 to 34 or dresses in 0 to 16 sit in one tidy grid. Reorders go out as purchase orders to the brand or wholesaler, and when the box arrives you receive it against the order and print the hang-tag labels straight away.

What happens to returns after the holidays?

Returns and exchanges are built into the sale screen. You can take back the whole receipt or one item, refund to the original payment method or issue store credit, and swap a size in one transaction so the stock moves correctly in both directions.

That matters most in January, when gift returns pile up next to clearance racks. Reports show returns by product and by staff member, so you can spot a style that keeps coming back because it runs small.

Do I need a separate website platform?

No, not to start. When you add products, BoutiquePOS builds an online store from the same catalog, with your photos, sizes, colors, prices and live stock, so a customer can't order a size you sold on the floor an hour ago.

If you already sell on WooCommerce, products, stock and orders sync with it. Shopify works through an integration, so ask about it on your demo. If you want a custom designed site, that is an optional done-for-you upgrade at $349 setup and $49 a month.

Which card terminals and payment methods does it work with?

BoutiquePOS works with your own card processor. We never process payments or take a cut; you keep the merchant account and rates you already negotiated, and the till records each sale against the right payment method.

Shoppers in the US expect tap-to-pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay alongside chip cards, plus cash and gift cards. You can add custom payment methods, such as store gift cards, Zelle or a buy-now-pay-later option your processor offers, so the end-of-day register report matches what is actually in the drawer and the bank.

FAQ

Boutique POS in United States: questions

Still unsure? Ask us on WhatsApp or the form, or search the help center.

Is BoutiquePOS available for boutiques anywhere in the US?

Yes. It is hosted software that runs in a browser on a tablet, laptop or desktop, plus a mobile app, so there is nothing to install and no regional restriction. Plans are priced in US dollars, per location, from $29 a month.

Does it calculate sales tax automatically?

It applies the tax rates you set on each location and product, adding tax at checkout. It does not look up rates for you or file returns, so confirm the right rates for your address and products with your accountant or state revenue department.

Can I run two stores in different cities with different tax rates?

Yes. Each location has its own tax settings, receipt layout, registers and staff permissions, while sharing one catalog. You can transfer stock between the two stores and see sales side by side.

Do you process card payments?

No. BoutiquePOS works with your card processor; we never touch the money. The till records each payment by method so your register close and reports stay accurate.

Can I print hang tags with barcodes?

Yes. You can design label templates for sheet labels or thermal roll printers, with the style name, size, color, price and a barcode in formats such as Code 128, EAN-13 or UPC-A.

Will my online store and my shop floor share stock?

Yes. The online store generated from your catalog reads the same stock as the till, and WooCommerce stores sync products, stock and orders. Shopify connects through an integration that we go over on your demo.

Is there a free trial?

Yes, 14 days, and paying yearly saves 20%. You can import your products by CSV during the trial so you test it on your real catalog.

Can my staff earn commission on sales?

Yes. You can assign a sales commission agent to each sale and run a commission report by person and date range, which suits styling-led boutiques where one associate builds the whole outfit.
